Jabba past away back in January and Bruce has been a sad little frog with out her. He just seemed lonely in that cage all by himself. When we'd go to feed him he would swim right up to the glass all hungry for some love.
When we found him belly up, Sam was very sad. He was crying and I was trying to comfort him by saying that Bruce is with Jabba now and so happy up in heaven with Jesus. He looked up at me with a confused expression. He got a bit frustrated and said, "No he's not Mama, he's right there!" I couldn't help but chuckle. I forgot how literal kids are sometimes. What a great opportunity to explain how our spirits and bodies work! :)
We put Bruce in a little chocolate box with tissue paper, lilacs from the yard and a sprinkle of frog food (Sammy's idea :)) inside. Sam said a sweet little prayer and Avie wanted to sing "Twinkle" (Twinkle Little Star). We said goodbye to our little friend and told him what a good pet he was.
Since then Sam's been telling me little things like, "Bruce and Jabba are happy with Jesus, huh Mom." and "when we die, we will see my froggies again." I'm grateful for teaching moments life gives us. It was sweet to see my children be so tender with their little pet. I'm grateful that this helped them understand death a little better.
Goodbye sweet Bruce! You will be missed!
